Taste chilled red wine or ice cream on Friday

It's been very exciting welcoming you all inside Earnest Drinks for dinner or drinks or lunch or what have you. It's especially exciting watching y'all experience the space approximately how we had intended prior to Covid. In any case, come by. Being open inside is nice because we don't have to worry about the whether, which if you haven't noticed has been very terrible, though it is nice right now. If you want to make a reservation, send an email to Chris, and we'll save you a table. As always, you can pre-order and pay for Gracie's in Union or Earnest Drinks in Kendall Square. You can order delivery from both locations just by clicking the links. Don't hate me, but this is a lot of spiders. And here's where he lets them climb on him. Can't watch this without feeling a kind of way. As a cleanser, I bet you can guess what happens when a frog eats a firefly. New in stock: Somerville La Croix. Back in stock: Kelcey's Chili Crisp. It's good on everything.

Wine time

Chris won’t stop talking about chilled red wine. He pops all of his reds in the fridge and thinks you should too, but he is also willing to acknowledge you might not want to and wine is a choice which you are welcome to make. On Friday from 5-7, come taste these three wines which blur the the line between rosé and red, and stay for our veggie bolognese which’ll go smashingly with our special by-the-glass options. Consider also, a bbq pork three way or vegan three way. Guided wine tasting, 3 pours $10. Are you a fan of poetry written by an ice cream shop? Have I got the offer for you. You can order a poem or haiku if you want. If you don't want to tell me what the poem should be about, I'll make something up. In regards to my bona fides here's a link to a picture book I wrote a couple years ago.

Help time

The restaurant industry feels very brittle at the moment. If you'd like to help us feel less brittle, here are 6 ways, 3 of which are pretty easy and 3 of which are even easier.
1) Ask Congress to refill the Restaurant Revitalization Fund.
2) If you work in an office that caters lunch, recommend Earnest Drinks/Gracie's for catering. Get in touch for info.
3) Go to Gracie's and Earnest Drinks, take pictures of what you get, post those pictures on the internet tagging us.

Apparel time

Posting of shirts will continue until morale improves. What greater way to show you love me I mean Gracie's than getting a t-shirt for yourself and one for your friend or sibling. There's the Flamingo Out of Step T-Shirt: Union Square orKendall Square or Online and the Ice Cream Weather Tank Top: Union Squareor Kendall Square or Online. I think you should get one. 36 Jason Statham posters. How about some cloud iridescence. It's a phenomenal phenomenon.

Dinner time

Just copying this paragraph from last week because it's been a day, but dinner is still important and these facts haven't changed. You should come by and try something off our dinner menu. You can come inside with your friends and have fun. Duck confit and tagliatelle bolognese are my favorites, but the pulled pork ravioli and spaghetti and meatballs are also good. On the lunch front, did you know our mushroom steak and cheese won Best of Boston from Boston Magazine? Click the link and scroll down to read the blurb.

Ice cream time

Here's a list of the pints we have in Union Square right this second. What do you want to know? What questions do you have? Respond to this email with an ice cream question and I will answer it. Respond to this email with an ice cream opinion and I will tell you if you're right or wrong. Here's a cat trying to bite something a cat shouldn't bite. Delivery is an option when you order off our website.

Time time

Our hours:
Gracie's in Union 2-9pm every day.
Earnest Drinks in Kendall 11-9 Monday-Friday, 12-8 on Saturday, 12-7 on Sunday.

Fun time

Hey look, the charcuterie board is back. Unrelated: Here's a fly killer. Unrelated: Here's a stork dropping a off a baby. Unrelated: Cat music.

Gift time

We have plastic gift cards at both shops that have to be purchased in person ($15 minimum) and digital gift cards you can purchase online for Earnest Drinks in Kendall Square and Gracie's in Union Square. Consider a made to order ice cream pie? We're testing out flamingo ice cream cakes. I don't know if you'll see this. Still need a gift? Get someone one of our new T-Shirts and new Tank Tops.

Please for the love of all nice things, help us find a cook time

This is the same paragraph every week about needing a cook. Like every other restaurant in the area, we're still hoping to hire a cook. That link may be dead, but we still need a cook. Send a note if you're interested. We're going to try to pay you right, give you a good lifestyle outside of work, and give you schedule flexibility in case you have other stuff going on. Our next cook will be guaranteed at least $18 an hour, room to grow, and we demand you maintain a life outside of the shop because there are more important things than work. We're not open late, so you won't be working late. Additionally, our shop has a brand new HVAC so you won't be sweating your ass off on a poorly ventilated hot line with someone screaming at you.

Equipment time

Knock on wood there were no freezer issues yet this week, but instead of the freezer, the ice cream machine decided to throw off the yoke of ice cream making which is it's only job and it's only purpose and the only thing it's good for by busting its coupling for the third time in a year. This happens when the ice cream becomes too chonky to spin and the ice cream machine says, "Hold up, I don't want to spin anymore." Luckily, since this has happened three times last summer, I know it is a relatively quick fix. And I also know why it's happening, too. A weird thing about owning small businesses is if you're like me, things can feel like a disaster when they happen for the first time because you (I) don't know what it means for the future, but after it's happened several times you (I) can let it roll off your back You can see what ice cream we have in Union by clicking here.

Market time

Here is a list of stores you can get Gracie's Ice Cream pints besides either of our locations. Here's a helpful map if you're a visual person.
Pemberton Market, Cambridge
Dave's Fresh Pasta, Davis Square
Formaggio, Huron Village AND Kendall Square
Broadway Marketplace, Harvard Square
Concord Market, Concord
Punch Bowl / Hilton Garden Inn, Brookline
Dovetail, Charlestown
Buckalew's, Melrose
Vidalia's Market, Beverly
Picnic and Pantry, Somerville, Bow Market

If you shop at a local specialty grocery store that's not on this list, it's very helpful to us if you mention Gracie's to them the next time you're there.

Closing time

Thank you for reading, forward this to your friends so they can read it, too, and thank you for all your previous support. There are no exclamation points in the newsletter this week. Would you like a book recommendation? How about What's Mine and Yours by Naima Coster. It's a lyrically written story about love and family and race. You should read it. Buy it at Porter Square Books or Amazon.
